    Gentlemen,

I am completely new to the field and I am trying to gather advice and data to make a purchase of a small mill. I will use it to produce parts for stereo tonearms (and maybe the small engines that I saw on one site!).

I have narrowed my search down to the Sherline 2000, Taig 2018 or 2019, and the Harbor Freight 44991. My observations, but based in ignorance, are that the Sherline appears to be very capable but small, whereas the H.B. is large but of questionable precision.

What are the recomendations that can be made regarding these?

    Rick

i would not recommend anything from harbor freight if you plan on using it hard and keeping it for any length of time my experience with harbor freight is that their equipment is pretty cheaply made very good prices but we have tried a few different pieces of equipment from them and we usually end up taking it back the same day. but this has been my experience you may get a good piece of equipment we have had no luck.

This is what I've been thinking. Have you any recommendations regarding the Taig or the Sherline units?

As a Sherline user I can recommend it not because I can compare to other mills but because you can get tons of support from users and vendors. It took me a while to understand what I need and to discover the sources but once I did it is priceless.
