    Welcome to the forum,

As the Z servo was moved while the machine was OFF, due to the maintenance work, it now has to be repositioned. APC states for absolute position coder. In the back side of the servo, under the red cap, there is a pulse coder that registers all movements from the servo, you don't need to open that cover, all required steps are performed from the outside.

What control is on your machine? Fanuc 0i-TC?

Look in the machine's documents, sometimes Hardinge throws there a couple of sheets with the APC recovery process, if you can't find anything, come back here and we will find another way.

    Hi John D

Are you sure it is a Cobra ? . . You have said that the model is an LC, which normally means C axis & L for live tooling, but I'm unsure whether Hardinge did the Cobra in the specification ?

Any who . . As Sinumeriko has said the reference needs setting, did you disconnect any cables when you where attending the ballscrew issue ?, all you need to do is reset the reference on the machine, depending on the control 21i etc you position is likely to be set in parameters P1240 or P1250, there is normally a procedure in the hardinge manual, and they are quite good manuals to follow.

LC was the in house code used on the assembly lines for the Cobra machines - LC42, LC51, LC65 to designate the different models
