Default Spinning Turning on NL, NT or CTX Beta TC machines

    Hello,

Does anyone have actual experience with this type of machining?

What it looks like in ESPRIT CAM:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phRxHKWEbPU

Mori and Kennametal developed it. I have contacted representatives from both, but it seems like Mori are the people to ask and our contact with them is busy at IMTS.

We'd really like to try it for a few of our more difficult to handle parts and materials, but so far we can't get any recommendations on where to start.

Special tooling required? Speeds (spindle, and cutting tool), Feeds? Tool life? Fixturing issues?

Any info from sources that have actually used it would be very beneficial.

    Thank you!!

Also Known as Spinning Tool Turning. It's very similar to polygon turning.
    Anyone???

I have not had any experience with this but I am now as curious as you are about how well it works and who has tried it. It looks pretty slick.

    Thanks Stevo!

I will be happy to share once I get some leads and can try it.

While in Finland approximately 8 years ago I was installing a machine for my company and next to the machine was I think a DMG, it was using a shell mill for heavy metal removal . . . very impressive.

The machine will require differential machining, the ability to run the driven tool spindle seperately to the main/sub spindle, I've never done spinning before but as in a previous post it's similiar to polygoning, but polygoning is normally reserved for Swiss type machines and generally non ferous materials, but this spinning is open to a new approach on steels and stainless

    Regards

    Mark

    Thanks Mark!

I believe the CTX Beta is a DMG/Mori.

Some coworkers who went to IMTS in Chicago said they saw something similar using a shell mill to remove material in a manner similar to what you're describing, but didn't say anything about feeds and speeds or using it with turning.

We use our Mori NL for Polygoning fairly regularly, so we were a bit shocked that the programming for spinning tool turning was so similar.

Have you ever tried it with ferrous carbon steels or stainless? We're still very much looking for speeds feeds and tooling.

I did not watch the video because I am at work and they block youtube but we do have a mori NT4300 and I believe an NT6000. We do not have much for issues with them, what kind of info are you guys looking for?

We were specifically wondering about the Spinning Turning. Do you guys do that where you're at?

We are trying to develop that process, and it looked like Mori had tight control over the toolholder and the inserts used in the process. We were looking to see if anyone had developed the process for speeds and feeds with what inserts and material. The other question we were interested in was how does the spinning turning handle interrupted turning/cuts.

Any "hands on" info is appreciated
