Question New Computer for CNC machine

    Dear All,

I am CNC programmer, using ELAPT Program software for cnc programming from Electronica company.

We are using RS 232 com port for transferring program to cassete and then loading to CNC machine.

computer configuration : Pentium MMX technology 233 MHz.

Now my problem is that our computer is very old and it stopped working, so we upgraded to i5 processor computer but this computer does not have com port 2 (25 pin male connector) which is required to transfer our program to NC cassette reader.
and program gives error communication link failure (internal stack failed).

i have also tried PCI card for 25 pin com port, but it did not work.

i have also contacted the machine manufacturer but they told us they have stopped support to this old machine and we have to purchase new one.

any suggestion how to solve this issue.
    please Please help?..

You may verify this port first using a null modem cable, for example, using Hyperterminal, COM Port Data Emulator or COM Port Stress Test from AGG Software. It is possible this port is broken.

Thanks for the reply, port is working.(checked with hyperterminal)

also in readme file of the cnc software is says
before execution of program i have to check the following
config.sys shall have buffers=20 & files=20, what does it mean.
and i have to create .bat file with echo off. what does it mean.

does these setting required mandatory to start the cnc software.

is it compulsory that my cnc software only starts or desined for Pentium MMX, 233 Mhz processor hardware configuration only.

buffers=20 & files=20 are settings that are applicable to DOS based programs. What Operating System is installed on the i5 computer? XP and like Operating Systems, don't use this command. With XP you want the CONFIG.NT located in \windows\system32\. The buffers=20 & files=20 can be included in that file.

The .bat file refers to a "Batch" file containing the required commands to launch the software application. Depending on a parameter switch set in this batch file, the commands lines of the batch (.bat) file can be either displayed (echo on) to the screen, or not displayed (echo off).

Its quite possible that the software you have will not run under the later Windows Operating Systems. In this case, you would be well advised to download one of the many Win compatible Editor/Comms applications available online.

Remove the Back Shells from the cable you have and Post the Pin-out, that is, what pins on one end connector are connected to pins on the other end connector, and any pins that may be bridged at either end. Post this, and I'll give you an equivalent pin-out that will work with a DB9 connector at the PC end.

    Regards,

    Bill
