    Default Hole clearance

    I have a sliding pin shaft O.D. is 3.936/3.937, what size and max & min on hole??

    Winseaker,

    You may want to check you "Machinery's Handbook". I have an OLD one (revised edition 23), and on page 633, it refers to types of fits. If you are looking for a slide type of fit, an old rule of thumb was .00015 - .0002 /inch of dia. Of course this is just a basic "rule". There are other factors such a thermal growth, that would need to be taken into consideration.

    It still seems close for a running sliding (RC1) tolerance. I have (edition 26), but this is first at this size. Page 634 at RC1 at 3.15-4.73 Im reading .006 on holes, is this right??

    Again it depends on what type of location you want. To me .006 seems to be a lot. One thing to keep in mind, it is easier to make the hole bigger than smaller!
