Default Fanuc control download/upload programs

Wanting to download programs stored on my Fanuc i series controller. After connecting to my computer hard drive with an RS232 cable, what software button is used in the controller to backup my programs?

Make sure your computer is setup to receive first.

Go into EDIT mode,
Select the PROGRAM screen,
and type in;
"O-9999" (don't use zero, use o)
Then select the "WRITE" menu key.

This should output every program in your memory to your PC in one large file.
If you want to do individual programs, just type in their "Oxxxx" number and "WRITE" that as well.

To Input a Program from an External Device
1. Select EDIT Mode
2. Press function key PROG , then the program contents display screen or program directory screen appears.
3. Press soft key [(OPRT)]
4. Press the rightmost soft key (next–menu key) at the bottom right of the screen.
5. After entering address O, specify a program number to be assigned to the program. When no program number is specified here, the program number used on the external device is assigned.
6. Press soft keys [READ] and [EXEC]

The program will be read into memory

To Output Programs to External Device
1. Make sure the External Device is ready to receive.
2. Select EDIT Mode.
3. Press function key PROG , then the program contents display screen or program directory screen appears.
4. Press soft key [(OPRT)].
5. Press the rightmost soft key (next–menu key) at the bottom right of the screen.
6. Enter address O.
7. Enter a program number. If –9999 is entered, all programs stored in memory are output. To output multiple programs at one time, enter a range as follows :
For Example
O1234,O2234
Programs No.1234 to No.2234 are output.
The program library screen displays program numbers in ascending order when bit 4 (SOR) of parameter #3107 is set to 1.
8. Press soft keys [PUNCH] and [EXEC]

The specified program or programs are output.

Sorry Doug, I didn't mean to cut across, I was typing when you made your Post.

Hi John,

I refer to whatever is connected to the control for the purpose of data transfer as an external device, as it doesn't necessarily have to be a PC. It can be any device capable of communication via RS232. However, in the overwhelming number of cases, the external device will be a PC or Lap Top.

These PCs and Lap Tops will not magically send and receive data, there needs to be the appropriate software installed for this purpose. You know when the PC or Lap Top are ready to receive by launching the software and starting the receive function within the software. See the two attached pictures. The picture on the left shows the Receive Function being selected, the picture on the right shows the software ready to receive. This is an Editor/Communication package that I authored, but most other like software function in a similar manner.
