This is usually caused by a bad fiber optic cable that jumps from drive to drive. Did this occur after playing around in the electrical cabinet or disconnecting cables for some reason. They are very delicate. You can usually figure out which one is bad by shining a flash light in one end and comparing the the amount of light that goes through on the other end as well as how crisp the outter edge of the light circle is when pointing it on a piece of white paper.

Papadis,
9 times out of 10 it is the optic cable. There is also a screen on the fanuc I think under system,PMC, I/O where it lists what drives or devices in the daisy chain that it actually see's. Might give you a better idea of which one it is not recognizing if the LED display on the unit does not tell you.
