I have been in the Construction business since I was 18 and started in the trenches and slowly worked my way up to the ranks to V.P. of some large companies. I am finally and recently burned out because I have done nothing but construction and the challenge is not there anymore. In other words same old problems same old solutions. Married 29 years and have twin 20 year old boys and I am 56.

I have been intrigued for years of the manufacturing business esp. since the CNC have come on so strong. I do not have the money to quit a high paying and stressful job and not make some kind of income. I am a passion person in regards to work but lost the construction passion but would love the hands on work of manufacturing.

So anyhow hear are my thoughts is to find a good used CNC machine and go to a school that teaches this field or even go offer myself for a nominal hourly wage to learn the business. In other words do what it takes to get up too speed which i know you aren't going to do that in 6 months but that is what good employees are for.

After I have done some intricate work visit some shops and show my work and offer to do the small orders that come in that they really don't want to fool with. We would run the orders through their shop so I wouldn't even know who the client was and that way there would be no chance of me stealing his customer. Do this for a year or so until I can build my business and work from quoting RFQ or just hopefully reputation.

For instance I am in the Gun business as a hobby and know of a market that every time you want a certain part or parts they are on backorder. When I asked why they cant keep up with the part manufacturing come to find out all the major gun guys like Colt, Remington, Browning etc. only manufacture a portion of there guns but do all the assembly. This is just an example so I would love to get some feedback good or bad.
