Default Okuma OSP-U100L RS232 wont work

This is a crown Lathe. I am fairly confident I have all the parameters set correctly because the ES-L6 machine we have, with the same control, works just fine and the parameters are set the same. The alarm I get when I try to read using the PIP funtion is 5236 RS232C Channal in use ERROR 54540001. Any Ideas on how to get this resolved would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get rid of the floppy drive all together and converting to a USB was discussed at one point but I dont know if this is an option. Thanks In advance Bob.

Have you done any more research on replacing the floppy drive in this unit? I'm looking to do the same thing but I don't know if it is a standard floppy drive or proprietary to Okuma.

Thanks!

I have not. It is still on the list of things to do. I dont think the drive is proprietary. The connection looks the same at the ribbon cable but I have not actually plugged in a spare floppy to try. If you do dig in and do this let me know. I will do the same. If I get a chance to dig into this I will let you know how it went.

I have installed the replacement unit and it worked perfectly. There were minor issues with the jumper settings and the disc format compatablity with windows 7 64 bit but all in all I am very happy with the results. It works just like the floppy but it is USB and it fits right into the same slot. I recommend this upgrade to anyone. At under $100 how can you go wrong.

http://www.floppytousb.net/ I bought the 1.44 u100 version. And the contact is very nice and very helpfull.
