puma 200s manual spindle start

hey, i have a puma 200s lathe with a fanuc 18i controler, the lathe works fine but i cant start the spindle or sub spindle with the start button, the stop one works, but to start it i have to type in s*** m03 all the time, anyone know what this could be ?

So there is a physical "stop spindle" and "start spindle" button? You can press the stop and it stops but if you press the start it does not start?

If there is indeed specific buttons for this and they are not working properly you should be able to view these in the ladder to see if what is holding it up. Sometimes its something as simple as pressing a specific button on the panel that may have activated and put the control into a hold.
